HISTORY

The history of the SHARE Network is a testimony of government pioneering best practices, deploying on a large scale, and supporting through training and technical assistance.   SHARE Network was implemented by a cross-sector partnership to establish a cross-sector collaborative network for workforce development.

SHARE Network was pioneered by the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives at the U.S. Department of Labor when in 2002, Job Service North Dakota (JSND) received a grant for a web-based resource directory to expand access to and better engage community with workforce development services.  North Dakota named the initiative JSND SHARE Network.

After evaluation and assessment of JSND SHARE Network the Center for Faith-Based and Community Initiatives at the U.S. Department of Labor took the leadership role to make the successful program available to other states and provide for sustainability.

Resource Directories began as information retrieval only.  SHARE Network helped to extend this functionality in a collaborative and sustainable manner by integrating productivity tools like Referral Systems.  Today, the Resource Directory and Referral System that evolved from SHARE Network is the leading technology in this field and used by over 25,000 organizations across the nation in workforce development and other areas of human services.
